This is our before and after master bedroom and bathroom redesign project in Rancho Viejo, Texas. What is redesign? According to the Oxford dictionary, it means to design (something) again or in a different way. You can move furniture into a different room or rearrange the furniture, art, and accessories. Also, you could reupholster old furniture instead of buying all new things for your home.
We were contacted last spring by our client who found us through an article we wrote for local Valley Women Inspire Magazine. You can read past articles HERE. She wanted to keep her vintage, high-end furniture yet up-date her master bedroom and bathroom decor.
MASTER BEDROOM AND BATH REDESIGN SCOPE
Our client requested that we create a new color palette based on an original painting by her friend. Because the bedroom décor was pretty and classic, but had not been changed in twenty years,she was ready for something new. She had started to change the colors by purchasing a new quilt for her bed. We were asked to use the quilt in the new design.
Requested for redesign:
- New fabrics on furniture, windows, and bedding;
- Replace the armchairs;
- New fabric and legs on foot stool;
- A new fabric on the bench;
- New area rugs;
- Recover slipper chair;
- New cabinet in master bath;
- New accessories and lamps.
We suggested to go lighter and brighter since the furniture was so dark. This was done with the fabrics for the custom window treatments, bedding, furniture, and new area rug. Also, new fabric for the slipper chair in the master bath, a new area rug, and cabinet suggestion. A quick and simple change that would tie both rooms together.
MASTER BEDROOM AND BATH PLAN
Since our client recently had the walls painted, we used the paint color and her new quilt for reference. This helped to choose the new fabrics and area rugs. The fabric on the armchairs had faded and our client was considering purchasing new chairs. We suggested that she have them reupholstered. The chairs were custom made by Henredon and in perfect condition except for the fabric.
The upholsterer suggested that we add larger feet to the chairs. This made them feel more grounded and in scale with the rest of the chair. Because our client asked for new legs on the foot stool, we decided to use the original chair legs. They worked perfectly and were more in scale to the smaller furniture piece.
Then, the new custom window treatments were updated with fabric in the same style as before. Our client loved the swag and jabot style of her original window treatments. We decided to go with a fabric that was similar in color to the walls for a rich, high-end look.
We chose the new custom-made bedding fabrics based on the color from the wall art. We mixed solids with one pattern for a classic and elegant look. There’s a little bit of shine and texture in the throw pillow as an accent.
To go with the new color palette, we chose a pale off-white area rug for the master bedroom. It brightens the room and contrasts with the dark furniture and flooring. In the master bathroom, we updated the slipper chair with fabrics in the new color palette. We also chose a new area rug in aqua and navy plus we suggested a navy cabinet.
MASTER BEDROOM AND BATH RESULT
With the new color palette both rooms are light, bright, and updated. Cheerful colors that were inspired by the new original artwork by local artist make the room feel brand new. We were able to save our client’s high-quality chairs by recovering them with new stain resistant fabrics. The new colors and patterns create a space that feels comfortable, luxurious, and uplifting.
